Hector Rail starts transport of 2.5 million cubic meters of logs at short notice

Hector Rail and Trätag AB have agreed that Hector Rail will begin to implement the so-called "Trätags concept" at short notice. This means that Hector Rail will transport around 2.5 million cubic meters of logs from various logging terminals to a number of grinding plants in central Sweden. The first trains are expected to arrive in a crowd before Christmas. The arrangement is valid for five years.

Hector Rail will initially work with today's set-up, but will drive the line with completely new electric locomotives in the future. These locomotives allow a smoother running production with bigger and heavier trains and the locomotives can be operated at the terminals without chain line and controlled by remote control.

Among others, large terminals such as Lomsmyren in Mora, Vansbro and Ljusdal can be mentioned in this context. Among the larger sawmills you can find Kvarnsveden in Borlängem Skutskät and Gruvön in Grums.

"Anders, Besser, Schneller is what the Hector Rail stands for. In this context it should be mentioned that they are not just empty words. We are proud that Trätag AB believes we can handle this challenging task in such a time-critical situation," says Mats Nyblom, Managing Director of Hector Rail AB. We are well prepared and will use this service to transport roughly six million cubic metres of logs annually. It could perhaps mean that we are Europe's largest log bearers.

The background for a quick start is that the previous suppliers have gone bankrupt.

"We are glad that Hector Rail has both the will and the ability to make preparations in the shortest possible time under these circumstances to meet this challenge of the "Trätag Concept". In the meantime, Hector Rail has seen the opportunity and seized the opportunity to offer the new technologies as an advantage for us landing owners," comments Olle Pettersson, Managing Director of Trätag AB.
