Hector Rail signs new contract with LKAB

On 20 June, Hector Rail AB and LKAB signed a 5-year contract, starting in December 2017. LKAB is the largest iron ore producer in Europe and has its headquarters in Kiruna and Malmberget. Hector Rail is an independent freight logistics company for rail freight transport on the European market with operations in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Germany. Both parties focus on quality solutions tailored to the needs of customers, stability and reliability of results.

The contract includes a service from Lulea to Kiruna through Malmberget seven days a week. Hector Rail will also provide shunting services at Lulea and Malmberget.

In order to support both parties in terms of reliability and environment, the new Vectron locomotives were selected for the new contract. The Vectron maximizes the use of electric locomotives and reduces the need for heavy diesel locomotives for the final part of the journey. In addition, modern control equipment means lighter locomotives.
